Retail Ramble podcast: retail and the digital skills gap

Oddbins managing director Ayo Akintola recently said that the battle to bring digital expertise to retail will continue to intensify in the coming years, as companies splash around the small pool of technological expertise available to help future-proof their businesses.

He described the situation as a case of "musical chairs", where the technical staff who can help guide the industry through its future digital journey will find themselves moving from retailer to retailer – unless the sector comes together to upskill staff.

In Essential Retail's inaugural Retail Ramble podcast, editor Ben Sillitoe and deputy editor Caroline Baldwin, who runs the publication's sister title Essential eCommerce, discuss how the drive for new digital talent is impacting the retail industry.

As a new feature of Essential Retail, we'd be keen to hear your feedback. Please contact ben@essentialretail.com if you have any comments on the subject and/or the Retail Ramble podcast.
