V&A retrospective for fashion retail pioneer Mary Quant

Iconic 1960s fashion designer and retailer Mary Quant is being celebrated in an exhibition at the V&A.

The exhibition, which will run until February 2020, features bespoke mannequins designed by Proportion London. The company supplied fun figures – combining elements from its Mademoiselle and Theory collections - that reflect Quant’s efforts to liberate women from formal fashions with fun, affordable fashion.

The mannequins are sporting hairstyles influenced by the 1960s, including Quant’s five point bob cut. A selection of unique and playful poses are employed to re-enact images from contemporary advertising campaigns for Mary Quant products.

“We worked with Proportion’s skilled development team to create a number of complex figures, making sure each and every figure provided a perfect fit for the amazing collection of Quant garments,” says V&A senior textile conservation display specialist Keira Miller.
