Shanghai Modern opens in Chinatown London

Noodle and dumpling restaurant Shanghai Modern has officially opened at Newport Place in Central Cross, the new development at Chinatown London.

The 372 sq m (4,000 sq ft) restaurant has been designed by Habi Creative. It reflects Shanghai traditions, and includes a show kitchen to allow customers to see their food being prepared. Wood panelling, grey marble tables, and gold finishes are used for the dining area.

“With such a central location and vibrant atmosphere throughout the day and into the evening, Central Cross in Chinatown London is an idyllic destination to open our latest restaurant.  Our offer is an experience to excite the senses and we are extremely lucky to have such a bespoke space in a brand-new development in Central London,” says Shanghai Modern director Chu Ting Tang.

“Just as Shanghai is a melting pot for neighbouring cuisines, so Shanghai Modern will be offering a diverse menu whilst focusing on Shanghainese classics such as Xiao Long Bao and Drunken Chicken,” says Julia Wilkinson, head of group restaurant strategy at property developer Shaftesbury, which is behind Central Cross.
