Samsung KX showcase to open in London's Coal Drops Yard

Electronics brand Samsung has revealed more details of the 1,858 sq m (20,000 sq ft) technology showcase it is set to open in Coal Drops Yard, at Kings Cross in Central London, next month.

The opening follows comments last week by Samsung global CMO YH Lee, who said “A lot can be learned through online, but there are a few things where face-to-face training is best.”

Called Samsung KX, the space is described as a store that will ‘redefine the retail experience’ by using Samsung’s ‘Do What You Can’t’ ethos.

Visitors to Samsung KX, which is situated at the ‘kissing point’ of Coal Drops Yard, will be able to test one-of-a-kind technical innovations, and engage with events and activities that will be brought to life on the world’s first vertical 10m wide curved Samsung screen, and a stage area.

Hot-desking facilities are available in the in-store café, and a number of future technologies will be available for customers to experience.

These include a digital cockpit driving system to show how the future of driving; a Galaxy Graffiti feature that uses the Galaxy S10 ‘spray can’ feature to draw on the giant screen; DJ Galaxy, which brings beats to live using LEDs; and an AR (augmented reality) Message Tree. Visitors can also turn a selfie image into a unique collage to leave on a display wall or take away as a souvenir.

The brand has emphasised that it will be using the vibrant Kings Cross area to create an inspiration hub. It will be working with a number of community groups, including charities and colleges.

“Our expert teams have been working with the King’s Cross community behind the scenes to create a destination that truly conveys and fulfils their needs. Combine that with the innovation of Samsung and varied interest areas of London, and we have an exciting prospect to bring to life, and actually enabling people to really ‘do what you can’t’,” says Samsung KX director Tanya Weller.

Samsung KX has been designed by Brinkworth, which worked with architecture and design practice KSS. Shopfitting is by Portview.
