New role for ex-NOTHS CEO and president Belsham

Simon Belsham, the former CEO of online retailer and ex-president of Walmart-owned, has taken on a senior role at New York-based tech start-up, Equinox Media.

Equinox Media is backed by Equinox Holdings, which through its subsidiaries such as Equinox Clubs, Pure Yoga, and SoulCycle, provides yoga classes, studio cycling, cardio exercises, martial arts, and personal training services across North America.

Belsham has taken on the new role after departing late last year, as part of major restructuring of divisions at the US business and its parent company throughout the course of 2019.

Prior to moving to Walmart in 2018, Belsham had spent nearly two and a half years as CEO of Previously, he held roles as online director at Tesco, and director of non-food at Ocado.

Commenting on LinkedIn, Belsham said of his new role: “We’re pre-launch right now and so I look forward to sharing more of what we will be doing over the coming months.

“Suffice to say it’s a great team and a unique opportunity to have a positive impact on the health of people and our society.”

Last year, Equinox Group announced that it was developing a new digital platform to give sports and fitness enthusiasts access to digital membership across its portfolio of brands, helping them develop personalised fitness programmes across different activities.

At the helm of the new digital venture is Jason LaRose, who was recruited as CEO of Equinox Media in 2019 from his role as Under Armour’s North American president. Prior to Under Armour, he had senior executive positions at EXPRESS and Sears, and was also an associate principal at McKinsey & Company.
