New interiors concessions for Harrods

China and tableware brands Wedgwood, Waterford and Royal Copenhagen – all owned by Fiskars Group – have opened new concessions within landmark department store Harrods.

The brands have taken a combined space of 300 sq m (3,229 sq ft) to highlight their respective heritages, with an emphasis on service and customer experience. Studio Found has designed the space, with shopfitting carried out by AD Baker.

A curated approach to product display informed the colour palettes used in the spaces, with a selection of subtle tones, high quality materials, and craftsmanship chosen to complement the products. A mixture of display plinths, tables, shelves and drawer units have been chosen to display merchandise, heightening the impact of individual collections and helping customers to navigate.

Marble display plinths in the Wedgwood space were influenced by classic Jasperware ranges, with greyed wood used to add an element of warmth. Textured blue fabric and brushed brass finishes were chosen to add a luxury feel.

A curved display area creates a focal area, while a semi-private customer consultation areas – where tea can be served in Wedgwood China – to let shoppers experience the brand and learn more about its history.

A bolder approach has been taken with the space for crystal brand Waterford. Inspired by the velvet-lined presentation boxes used for the crystal, the space features a fluted back wall lined in dark grey velvet. The feature is mirrored on a chandelier plinth, adding a dramatic backdrop with distracting from the limited-edition products, with a raised central plinth used to draw customers into the space.

The Royal Copenhagen concession features a colour scheme chosen by the brand’s in-house design team. Rich walnut, burgundy and blue leather, and burnished brass are used to set off the porcelain products.

Studio Found worked closely with Fiskars Group to learn the history and heritage of each of the brands, and the profile of customers who would be considering the products at Harrods, says design director Ed Plumb.

“Harrods is a one of Fiskars most high-profile concessions in the UK with customers from all over the world attracted by the prestige of the store and the quality of our brands,” says Fiskars head of retail Mike Powell. “Working with a creative, flexible full-service design agency was critical to the success and timely delivery of this project, which was executed in just six months.”
