Matalan reveals UX Lab

Fashion and home retailer Matalan has announced the launch of its very own UX Lab which will reside at its head office in Knowsley.

Matalan intends to bring customers into its office to ensure it interacts with them more frequently so it can gain a wider understanding of their online shopping journeys.

The lab was officially opened by a loyal Matalan customer on Friday 9 November 2018. The launch of this new research facility will also see Matalan increasing its on-site experimentation with eCommerce – especially looking at customers who shop both on and offline.

Evidence from the customer UX testing to shape new design solutions and improvements, while Matalan staff will also be able to attend testing sessions to learn about customer behaviour.

Paul Hornby, director of eCommerce at Matalan said: “I’m delighted with the opening of our UX Lab as it re-enforces our customer-centric, omnichannel ambitions. We’ve always had the opportunity to interact with our customers in store, but haven’t had the same opportunity online. That has now changed and this step-change in our access to qualitative data from real customers will help us continue to improve the omnichannel customer experience.”

Matalan is dedicated to increasing its internal knowledge and skills, with the retailer recently announcing the launch of a new eCommerce student placement programme which will take place next summer. The fashion and home retailer will work with partner universities over the coming months to recruit students from a broad range of skills, including computer science, digital marketing and psychology, for the 12-month paid placement.
