Lush introduces new automated payroll software

Cosmetics retailer Lush is introducing new software to run its company payroll in the UK and Ireland, with a view to implementing it across international business operations.

Payroll & HR services provider SD Worx will start by running payroll operations for 4,500 Lush employees, including all 102 of the retailer’s stores, and manufacturing, support and digital teams in the UK and Ireland. The company’s cloud-based software will also be used for 300 employees in Lush’s manufacturing team in Germany.

SD Worx’s HRevolution – the software of choice in this deal – is constantly updated according to changing legislation, which will help Lush remain compliant at all times. It is expected to be fully operational in the UK and Ireland by August 2018.

In Germany, SD Worx’s Accurat HCM is already being implemented, while its Protime time and attendance management software will also be introduced in due course. Once fully operational, manual interventions won’t be necessary as HRevolution and Protime are fully automated.

Upon successful implementation, Lush has the option of expanding the deployment to further global markets that are reviewing their payroll offering.

The move to work with a third party is noteworthy because Lush’s UK team is known for developing many of its systems and software in house.

Aaron Mudd, European pay and benefits manager at Lush, said to build and develop a system for such a critical function as payroll “would have been far too complex and risky”.

"Our previous solution was simply not working and we had to make a change for the benefit of our employees – this is why we chose SD Worx,” he added.

“With SD Worx taking care of the aspects of payroll such as legislative updates and IT requirements, the team at Lush will benefit from increased productivity and be able to focus on doing what it does best, day in, day out.”

SD Worx says its software’s open API capability means Lush can adapt the solution to its own needs and ensure that it is seamlessly integrated within existing systems.

As an example, Lush is developing a single digital site for all its employees to manage tasks such as their own training or holiday requests. When completed, the site will work in tandem with SD Worx HRevolution, according to the solutions provider.
