Online takeaway marketplace Just Eat appoints new chairman

Online takeaway delivery company Just Eat has announced Mike Evans will be its new non-executive chairman.

Evans, who has held the same role at digital property operator and Zoopla parent company ZPG since 2014, will join the online retailer on 26 April 2018.

The new recruit serves as senior independent director of life assurance and pensions business Chesnara, and was previously non-executive chairman of Hargreaves Lansdown from December 2009 to February 2018 and a non-exec at Esure between 2013 and 2015. His CV also includes a COO role at Skandia.

His digital expertise was referenced by Just Eat as a key factor in his appointment, at a time many organisations in retail are looking for tech know-how in their leadership teams during a period of significant structural transformation for the industry.

Andrew Griffith, interim non-executive chairman, said: "I am delighted to welcome Mike to the board of Just Eat, where his proven expertise as a FTSE 100 chairman, and experience of online marketplaces, will be immensely valuable.

“He joins at an important time for the business, as it seeks to extend its UK and international leadership in fast growing markets.”

Evans will join the board as an independent non-exec and chairman elect on 6 March, officially assuming the role after Just Eat’s annual general meeting. At the same time, former CEO David Buttress will retire from the board as a non-executive director, having previously announced he was stepping down from the top job last year due to “urgent family matters”.

The announcements were made on Friday alongside a number of senior job changes in the world of eCommerce and retail technology.

Online fashion house Asos announced that group chief financial officer (CFO) Helen Ashton has handed in her resignation and will step down from the board on 30 April 2018. She will remain in employment until 31 August to aid the handover process.

Nick Beighton, Asos CEO and previously the retailer's CFO, will cover Ashton's role until her replacement is recruited.

Meanwhile, digital point of sale, inventory management and enterprise promotions provider OneView Group announced, as part of its board's succession planning, that COO Linda Palanza is now CEO. Stuart Mitchell is now deputy chairman of the board and will continue as part of the senior leadership team.
