John Lewis to invest £21m in Peterborough store refurbishment

John Lewis & Partners has confirmed that it will be investing £21m in the refurbishment of its store in the Queensgate shopping centre in Peterborough.

The wider centre, owned by Invesco Real Estate and managed by LendLease, is undergoing a £60m extension. The new space will be anchored by a 10 screen Empire Cinema.

The John Lewis store will be reconfigured as part of the refurbishment. The 8,640 sq m (93,000 sq ft) department store will be given a number of new features – and while work is taking place, customers will be able to take a virtual tour of the new store using VR headsets.

A new womenswear department, Style Studio for one-to-one personal styling, and concierge-style Experience Desk are among the new additions to the store.

“As retail is changing it is important for us to respond to the needs of our customers. The investment in the shop will create new and exciting experiences, while giving our customers in Peterborough a new level of personalised and curated shopping,” says John Lewis head of branch for Peterborough Gary Rowntree.

“We want to thank our customers for their patience while the improvements are being made and we are very excited to unveil new sections of the shop as the work progresses. In the meantime, we will ensure our expert Partners are on hand to answer any questions over the upcoming months.”
