John Lewis appoints strategy director to new exec team

The John Lewis Partnership has appointed the former MD of Hive to the position of executive director, strategy and commercial development.

Nina Bhatia will join the John Lewis Partnership's new executive team on 17 February, reporting directly to chairman Sharon White.

Prior to leading smart home business, Hive, she oversaw British Gas’s commercial and connected home project, after a number of years leading its 'Electrical and Dyno Services' business which delivered electrical and plumbing repairs to millions of homes.

Bhatia also spent 10 years at McKinsey & Co working with clients in the consumer, energy, healthcare and public sectors.

She said: “I am delighted to be joining the Partnership. The business’s purpose and its two incredibly strong brands resonate strongly with me. Working with partners across the business, I look forward to developing a strategy for the Partnership that is relevant to our customers, is built on trust and delivers commercial value.”

White commented: “Nina brings tremendous commercial and strategic experience and will play a crucial role as part of the newly-formed Future Partnership Executive team.”

This follows a significant shake up of the JLP executive team, with this announcement coming in the same week that the British institution says goodbye to MD Paula Nickolds.

Meanwhile, earlier this week, Waitrose appointed Martyn Lee as executive chef to drive food product innovation.

The retailer recently announced a 1.8% drop in peak trading compared to the previous year. Sales for the seven weeks to 4 January 2020 at both John Lewis and Waitrose were down 2% and 0.4% on a like-for-like basis respectively.
