Interntional restaurant chain Din Tai Fung confirms London flagship

International Taiwanese restaurant chain Din Tai Fung has confirmed that it will open a flagship UK branch, with a retail offer, on Henrietta Street in London’s Covent Garden.

The brand’s core philosophy is based on serving high quality food at reasonable prices. It has received particular accolades for its famous dumplings, and has more than 150 branches worldwide.

The London flagship will offer Din Tai Fung’s range of Taiwanese sauces on a retail basis, along with a range of collectible souvenirs. It will also feature a unique cocktail bar, with interiors designed by architect Song Yih of Song Designs Studio – who is responsible for the chain’s major branches in Taiwan, Singapore, Dubai and Thailand.

A new look and feel will depart from the classic Chinese style of previous branches, seeking instead to represent the symbolic meeting of Eastern and Western cultures. Set over two levels, the restaurant will be fitted with original oriental pieces, including woodcarvings salvaged from historic buildings in China. It will also feature carved stone lions, which are symbolic of good fortune. The site provides around 250 covers in around 836 sq m (9,000 sq ft).

Taiwanese feature walls, sculpted with grey curved roof tiles, will be used to delineate the interior space. Traditional oriental materials including hard wood and rattan will be used throughout, along with calligraphy paints by artist Tan Oe Pang.

The restaurant is scheduled to open during the first week of December 2018.
