Indian leather goods brand Nappa Dori picks London for European debut

Indian luxury leather goods brand Nappa Dori has opened its first European store, at Monmouth Street in London’s Seven Dials.

The 130 sq m (1,400 sq ft) boutique store has been designed by brand founder and creative director Gautam Sinha.

“I personally design all my stores, and do all the interiors and manufacturing in-house.  The Brand DNA is very clean and minimal, with a mix of mid-century modern influences and clean industrial elements such as the use of metal shelves and industrial lighting. All our stores share the same language and our lighting is the key to creating the ambiance, along with a lot of brass and gold finishes and milky frosted glass to give warmth to the entire store,” he says.

Nappa Dori launched in 2010, and trades from seven locations in India and a destination store in the Maldives. It has established collaborations with brands including Kiehl’s, Qatar Airways and Chivas Regal.

The London branch, which is arranged over two levels, includes the brand’s Dori café, which serves traditional India drinks.

“The high volume of tourists and locals who frequent the stylish streets of Seven Dials made it the obvious choice for our first UK and European venture,” says Sinha. “After seeing so much success across our Indian portfolio, embarking upon this new market is a natural next step and has always been a key goal for our business. The unique community of Seven Dials is the perfect location for us to start this adventure.”

“Nappa Dori is an exciting addition to the international imprint amongst Seven Dials’ curated mix of tenants,” says Addy Williams, senior retail portfolio manager at property group Shaftesbury, which manages Seven Dials. “This opening reflects the increase in brands selecting this unique West End destination for debut UK and European stores, following in the footsteps of leading brands such as Away and Beast. With its specialist product range and immersive café component, Nappa Dori adds a great new dimension to our retail line-up.”
