Harvey Nichols opens refurbished Knightsbridge womenswear department

Department store Harvey Nichols has reopened its first floor womenswear department, as part of an ambitious redevelopment of its original Knightsbridge flagship store.

The 2,044 sq m (22,000 sq ft) space has undergone a four month refurbishment to designs from Studio Four IV. The brief called for a move away from the traditional branded shopfits seen in department stores, to a more sophisticated interior more like a luxury boutique.

Large parts of the floor have been restructured to create a more fluid, open plan space. The original windows have been uncovered, allowing natural light to flood the space, while a dedicated area has been created for shoes, which are presented through a combination of materials including marble,  textured glass and raw steel.

As well as highly trained staff, the new department has introduced a range of technology including the Ask HN service – an on-demand system run through an app.

“Following a four month closure of our First Floor, which houses our womenswear designer collections, we can finally let customers come and experience the beautiful new space,” say Harvey Nichols co-chief operating officers Daniela Rinaldi and Manju Malholtra. “We believe we have created an unrivalled destination, which offers the best edit of international brands including ready-to-wear, accessories and shoes – along with the finest advice from our team of expert stylists.”
