French Connection opens new Woking store but plans 'right sizing'

Fashion retailer French Connection has opened its latest new store, with a branch in the Town Mall in Woking, Surrey.

The 117 sq m (1,260sq ft) store has been designed by the retailer's in-house team, and is located next door to the local branch of Fat Face.

The store features the latest incarnation of French Connection's clean and minimalist store fit-out, with a mostly neutral colour palette. This branch features the chain's full range of womenswear and its industrial-inspired home collections.

French Connection had been seeking a buyer for its business, but announced last week that it has scrapped its search for a new owner and will instead focus on 'right sizing' its retail operation.

A number of new retail tenants have recently opened stores in central Woking, which is undergoing a regeneration programme. French Connection’s opening coincides with ongoing progress at the Victoria Square developement, which is set to open in May 2021.

The mixed-use development includes 11,613 sq m (125,000 sq ft) of new retail floorspace anchored by a 4,545 sq m (50,000 sq ft) Marks & Spencer store and a 2,508 sq m (27,000 sq ft) Boots unit. There will also be 429 residential apartments in two towers of 30 and 34 storeys, plus 1,570 new car parking spaces, two new public plazas, and a 189-room four-star Hilton Hotel.

“As we continue with our town centre regeneration plans, Woking is fast becoming a destination of choice for premium brands. We are very excited that French Connection has chosen Woking to open its latest store, which will add to our retail and restaurant offer,” said Cllr David Bittleston, leader of Woking Borough Council.
