Design showcase: Leica's new Mayfair gallery and store

Camera brand Leica has formally opened its new London flagship store. The double-fronted store on Duke Street in Mayfair replaces a smaller store in Bruton Street.

The original London store was Leica’s best-performing store in the world, and the new location is intended to help the brand capitalise on this success.

The site combines a spacious gallery area, which will be hosting work from a series of photographers and which can accommodate events.

An opening party last week attracted a number of celebrity fans of Leica cameras.

The store is also home to Leica’s Akademie training centre, and stocks its full range of products and accessories.

DC10 Architects designed the new store, which measures 100 sq m (1,076 sq ft) over ground and basement levels.

“Leica is a challenger brand that is listening carefully to customers,” says Leica UK managing director Jason Heward. “We… create destinations where we can connect on a deep experiential level.”
