Amazon Prime Day 2019 becomes 48-hour event

Online retail titan Amazon has announced its first 48-hour Prime Day deals event, with over one million deals promised to customers over that period.

Amazon said that those who are signed up for its UK Prime membership scheme will have access to more deals across Amazon.co.uk than on any previous annual Prime Day.

Items from all sectors, including fashion, furniture, beauty, and electronics, as well as Amazon’s own devices, will be available at reduced prices from 00.01am on Monday 15 July to midnight on Tuesday 16 July.

A selection of early deals are already live online, while new deals will be added in the build-up to the main event in mid-July. Consumers can sign up for a free Amazon Prime trial and benefit from the special offers, with Amazon seemingly confident that events such as Prime Day can play a part in recruiting new customers.

Jeff Wilke, CEO of Amazon’s Worldwide Consumer business segment, commented. “Get ready, as we pull back the curtain to reveal exclusive products, special performances and two full days of phenomenal deals this Prime Day.

“Our vision is that Prime Day should be the absolute best time to be a member – when you can enjoy shopping, savings, entertainment and some of the best deals Prime members have ever seen.”

This year’s Prime Day sale is available to Prime members in the UK, US, Spain, Singapore, Netherlands, Mexico, Luxembourg, Japan, Italy, India, Germany, France, China, Canada, Belgium, Austria, Australia and – new this year – the United Arab Emirates.

Last year’s Amazon Prime Day was described by Amazon as its biggest yet, with over 100 million products sold. It also said that it received more Prime sign-ups on 16 July 2018 than on any other day since the membership scheme was launched.
