Only one in five buying Christmas groceries online

Online retail may be making increasing inroads into Christmas shopping habits, but only one in five UK shoppers was planning to buy seasonal groceries online this year, according to research from Vista Retail Support.

Just 21 per cent of UK shoppers were planning to buy groceries online, with 12 per cent using a combination of online and in-store shopping sources. Only 9 per cent of shoppers relied entirely on online retailers for their Christmas groceries.

“While more supermarkets are embracing technology in order to better serve their customers, some of the answers provided by respondents show there is clearly an issue with fulfilling orders and in some cases with staff training,” says Vista technical services director James Pepper.
