Primark extends HR cloud systems contract

Value fashion chain Primark has extended its contract with US-based enterprise cloud applications provider, Workday, to use its technology for running its company-wide HR systems.

The two organisations first joined forces in the 2012-13 financial year, and the new arrangement comes after what has reportedly been a successful start to the partnership where Primark's managers and employees have received faster access to information, improved reporting capabilities, and the capacity to use data to drive business decisions.

Specifically, it is Workday's Human Capital Management (HCM) solution that will be used for a further three years.

Workday says its HCM application is being used to aid Primark's expansion in the UK, Europe and – most recently – in the US, where it already has four stores in the north-east of the country.

Primark said last month that revenues in its core markets had been impacted due to unseasonably warm weather, with the retailer estimating its like-for-like sales, which ignore new-store sales, will fall 2% for the year to 17 September.

Operating profit margin is expected to remain unaffected this financial year, although Primark warned that the uncertainty and currency fluctuation surrounding the UK's decision to leave the European Union could impact the bottom line in the new financial year.
