Topshop hires Urban Outfitters eCommerce chief as digital director

Topshop has announced the appointment of Corinne Suchy as the fashion retailer's new global digital director.

Suchy, who joined Topshop last month, comes from Urban Outfitters where she oversaw the retailer's growth online for the last three years. She held a number of roles at Urban Outfitters, joining the company to oversee global eCommerce and digital strategy in February 2013, before being promoted to head of eCommerce and later executive director of global eCommerce.

Topshop made the announcement on LinkedIn and said: "Corinne brings with her a wealth of experience and an enthusiasm for our customer that will lead Topshop digital in its next phase of growth."

Topshop has been pushing forward with its digital strategy, hiring roles in eCommerce, digital marketing, digital content and digital creative, in an effort to find new ways to connect with customers.

The retailer said on its digital careers page: "This hotbed of bespoke content and innovative social activity is the fastest-growing sector of the business, putting digital at the forefront of our commercial success."

Earlier this year, the fashion retailer began working with innovation incubator group, L Marks, to learn more about wearable fashion technology concepts. Topshop parent company, Arcadia Group, established the 'Top Pitch' initiative, to encourage pre-retail entrepreneurs and start-ups from around the world to develop a new product that is "in demand with the Top Shop customer".

The competition – similar to a John Lewis JLab scheme – hopes to discover more about fashion and wearable technologies, while also offering start-ups the opportunity to learn from key figures in the fashion, business and technology industry.
