Cash management vendor APG on innovation drive

Global cash management solutions manufacturer APG Cash Drawer has appointed point of sale (PoS) industry veteran, Bob Stone, to lead its product development strategy.

Arriving at APG as global vice president for engineering, Stone is looking to lead an innovation drive to bring new retail technology solutions to market. He previously held the position of senior vice president for product at PowaPOS, while other roles have seen him lead global hardware product management for NCR Hospitality and Radiant Systems.

For over 15 years, Stone has overseen the introduction of new technology for hospitality and retail sites, with areas of product innovation including PoS terminals, application specific intelligent systems, and mobile/tablet-based PoS tech.

Mark Olson, APG president and CEO, stated: "Stone is forward-thinking and his global expertise with industry-leading technology will serve as a catalyst as we continue to innovate and produce products that enhance retailer, hospitality, QSR and grocery environments.

"With Bob's addition, APG strengthens its commitment to developing cutting edge products and cultivating relationships with independent software vendors, integration partners, and resellers more than ever before."

APG clients in the US include Walmart, Lowe's and Home Depot, but Stone's arrival comes a year after the company merged with the UK's Cash Bases to expand its international reach. The deal means Cash Base's automated cash management system, SMARTtill, is now part of the APG product suite.

UK convenience chain Costcutter recently invested in SMARTtill, which changes the end-of-day cashing up process for the retailer by automatically counting notes and coins, while providing full reports including figures associated with rolling floats values, change needed, top-up values, pick-up values and sales values.
