Mothercare's Irish arm in PoS refresh

Mothercare Ireland – a franchise of the UK-based baby and parent product retailer – has completed the roll-out of a new in-store technology implementation, as the business looks to focus on improving the customer experience following its recent restructure.

The business closed three of its stores in 2015 after it exited examinership, and is looking to the future as a more streamlined operation of 15 shops which have benefited from new funding. It is understood that renegotiation of rents was a key part of the examinership process, which was undertaken last summer by PricewaterhouseCoopers.

As part of the new strategy, the decision was made to replace its ageing point of sale (PoS) equipment with modern technology and hardware from Box Technologies. The Oxfordshire-based vendor's Cielo PX-150 All-in-One POS solution has been placed in all stores, with the deployment managed by Box's Irish partner, Store Computer Technology.

The project included the redesign, installation and commissioning of all PoS cabling, touchscreen tills, peripherals and back office PCs, as well as the removal of all redundant hardware.

Ben Ward, commercial director at Mothercare Ireland, said the technology investment has helped the business improve its in-store offering.

"We've always strived to offer a streamlined and stress-free experience during the often exhausting process called parenting, and Box has helped us to continue offering this experience right up to the till," he added.
