Firebox takes to Kickstarter

Firebox is taking part in its first Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign. The online retailer is launching its Giant Pufferfish Slippers project on Kickstarter today, with a fundraising target of £7,000.

While the e-tailer has followed, backed and sold over 40 Kickstarter products in the past, Firebox has yet to go down the crowdfunding route itself.

The gift retailer is known for creating whacky products, including gin made from the tears of a unicornextremely abusive balloons and some offensively strong coffee amongst many others. The e-tailer said the Kickstarter community is the perfect platform to continue launching more ambitious projects.

Kristian Bromley, MD at Firebox.com, said: "As Kickstarter is such a fertile ground for cool and original products we feel a certain kinship exists. We believe in supporting new design, innovation and product development, so we’re confident that this like-minded community will now help support us too."

Bromley said Firebox decided to pursue Pufferfish slippers because it believed the creature had been previously overlooked when it comes to design.

"We think that the Pufferfish is one of the coolest creatures to have ever lived and deserves celebrating," he said. "As our video explains - there are loads of mad facts; like its elaborate mating rituals and how dolphins use it to get high!"

Consumers who take part in the Kickstarter campaign will be entitled to earlybird discounts, multi-buy discounts, and bundles with other best-selling Firebox products, such as its Mystery Box.

Firebox has also partnered with successful Kickstarter veterans, Smoko, to create a special Baby Pufferfish Night Light as a reward exclusively for the campaign.

Earlybird discount will be from £20, while the slippers will retail at £29.99.
