Wolkyshop pairs online and offline as it enters UK market

Wolkyshop has launched online in the UK, which will be followed by a store opening in Brighton next month.

The Dutch shoe retailer specialises in high-quality, leather, comfortable shoes under the 'Wolky' brand – which means 'cloud' in Dutch.

The retailer has 11 shops in Holland and sells a range of shoes featuring ergonomic foot beds with a layer of memory foam, which mould to a customer's feet.

Head of UK operations at Wolkyshop, Mark Zwart, said: "All too often, the health benefits of a good pair of shoes are overlooked in favour of cheap, short-lived, 'fashion' footwear. By making Wolkyshop's beautiful handmade shoes available in this country, we hope to encourage British people to treat their feet!"

Wolkyshop will be providing free shipping and returns online at www.wolkyshop.co.uk, while its Brighton shop will open in April 2016.

Meanwhile, Brantano and Jones Bootmaker were acquired from Dutch parent company, Macintosh, last year by Alteri for €17 million. Brantano was soon put into adminstration by Alteri, which then bought back 81 shops and 59 concessions, saving 1,372 jobs. But 58 stores remain at risk of closure, according to The Guardian.
