RBTE 2016: Datalogic scanner wins Innovation Award

The votes are in and Datalogic's Magellan 9800i scanner has been named as the RBTE Innovation Award winner for 2016.

The Magellan 9800i scans digitally watermarked barcodes, meaning hundreds of bar codes that are invisible to the human eye can now be used on product packaging.

Datalogic says the product can increase productivity at the point of sale, while it also holds the Guinness World Record for the fastest time to scan 50 items.

The innovation prize was presented to Mike Doyle, Datalogic's regional director for UK & Ireland, at the RBTE Big Party, on Wednesday afternoon after the first day of the expo. Voting was undertaken by a judging panel made up of online and multichannel retailers, and prominent industry consultants.

Doyle told Essential Retail: "We're delighted to have won the award, especially as we were up against such strong competition.

"It's an honour to be recognised by such a judging panel comprising some of the leading names in retail technology. The product offers retailers multiple ways to speed up transactions at the point of sale, as well as opening up new branding opportunities for consumer packaged goods companies."
