RBTE 2016 Exhibitor Spotlight: Star Micronics

POS printer manufacturer Star Micronics is returning to RBTE, and it will be showcasing its range of products at the two-day event at London Olympia between 9-10 March 2016.

Essential Retail caught up with Annette Tarlton, marketing director at Star Micronics, to find out more about the company and its plans for this week's show.

Why have you booked for RBTE 2016?

We have been attending RBTE since 2011. This is a key show for Star as it is the ideal platform to reach a wide range of retailers and system integrators. The number of visitors has increased year on year and it has proved to be one of our most successful shows in terms of the quality and number of visitors to our stand (which was buzzing last year) and the level of new business generated.

What new technology will you be displaying at RBTE 2016, and why is it relevant?

With over 14 of our many software partners on the stand, we will be demonstrating an extensive range of point of sale (PoS) and mobile PoS solutions including a number of new and exciting products; a combined Bluetooth printer and cash drawer - mPOP; a new wireless LAN printer - TSP143III WLAN and a free of charge digital receipting service AllReceipts that is available across Star’s range of PoS printers. The service allows the customer to remain anonymous yet receive a digital copy of the receipt and full colour promotions, while the retailer can benefit from access to analytics, an instant in-store customer survey and unique device management tools that provide the real-time status of printers across the entire estate. The latest significant feature to be added to this service is Receipt Flip, the first two-sided colour digital receipt option. Enabling retailers to take advantage of the reverse side of digital receipts, Receipt Flip allows terms and conditions to be displayed as well as store policies, promotions, marketing material, etc. Another new feature is Engage NOW. This allows the retailer to provide links to promotions, discounts, coupons, etc on the Engage NOW landing page. Customers using the AllReceipts App can simply tap on the retailer’s logo from the list of receipts on their smartphone and be directed to a URL that the retailer specifies. Engage NOW is secure and easily customisable, providing a highly personal customer connection.

Given Star’s focus on connectivity at all levels, we have extended our suite of industry leading software and developer tools to provide feature-rich solutions that work above existing PoS software, offer power and paper saving features, powerful marketing tools as well as ease of integration for developers, integrators and retailers.

The retail landscape is evolving. While traditional PoS solutions have the usual important role to play in retail and hospitality we are witnessing a distinct shift towards Bluetooth and wireless MPoS solutions as the cloud becomes more prevalent and tablet PoS takes on greater importance for retailers of all sizes.

Name some of the retailers that you are currently working alongside?

With over 40 years experience in PoS printing, Star is one of the leading manufacturers in the industry with the largest portfolio of traditional PoS solutions and, more recently, MPoS. Star’s key customers include a wide range of Tier 1, 2 & 3 retailers and hospitality operators from Harrods of Knightsbridge, Hamleys and B&Q in the UK to McDonald’s across Europe. It is the combination of product range, high level support and known reliability that has led Star to be the printer provider of choice for so many retailers globally today.

What's the best customer service you've experienced this year?

The Premier Inn all over for consistently looking after the Star team in the UK – the beds are great and the Happy Hour helps the feet after a day exhibiting.

Quick-fire question round: Do you...

Shop in-store or online? BOTH! Shoes definitely in store!

Prefer tea or coffee? Definitely coffee – I am British but have always thought tea tastes like pond water!

Use Facebook or Twitter? Neither personally – both professionally.

Use iOS or Android? Android Samsung phone for business and some personal & mini iPad for personal & long emails!

Rate beacons or digital signage? Of course, I am an IT marketing professional or do you mean rate as in choice? Digital Signage – less big brother.

Use contactless or cash? Both.

Visitors to RBTE 2016 can meet with Star Micronics at Stand 310.
