RBTE 2016 Exhibitor Spotlight: WhiteHat Security

Application security company WhiteHat Security is new to RBTE, and it will be showcasing its range of products at the two-day event at London Olympia between 9-10 March 2016.

Essential Retail caught up with Andrew Lawton, vice president EMEA at WhiteHat Security, to find out more about the company and its plans for the spring show.

Why have you booked for RBTE 2016?

This will be our first time attending RBTE – and we’re really excited. Over the last couple of years there has been a stream of high-profile retail data breaches in the US and UK, and we’re committed to working with the retail industry to address the primary cause of these breaches: web application security. We’re attending RBTE to raise awareness of the importance of application security testing for retailers, and to educate them on the benefits of investing in application security. We want to help retailers secure their business, their customers and their reputations.

What new technology will you be displaying at RBTE 2016, and why is it relevant?

At this year’s RBTE, we will be demonstrating WhiteHat Sentinel, our software-as-a-service application security platform. Sentinel enables retail businesses to immediately improve the security of their websites and web applications, and through a unique capability called the WhiteHat Security Index, it can even provide a score that tells the user how vulnerable or safe their websites are. WhiteHat Sentinel is relevant to this audience because hackers are increasingly targeting retailers and their customers. Yet, for an industry whose growth is driven by online sales, we’ve found that retail websites are more likely to exhibit serious website vulnerabilities compared to any other industry. Given the volume and nature of customer information that passes through them, it’s really important for retailers to have a means to constantly assess their security posture.

Name some of the retailers that you are currently working alongside?

We work alongside some of the largest retailers in the world, both bricks and mortar and online. Our customers do like their anonymity however and so we do not broadcast their names unless they have specifically approved this.

What's the best customer service you've experienced this year?

ActiveQuote helped me get my premiums back from BUPA when my new policy with a competitor unknowingly overlapped with theirs for four months.

They went above and beyond what I would have expected and got the result that they had promised, even though BUPA originally said that they would not refund me.

Quick-fire question round: Do you...

Shop in-store or online? Online.

Prefer tea or coffee? Tea.

Use Facebook or Twitter? Facebook, although not frequently.

Use iOS or Android? iOS.

Rate beacons or digital signage? They should be working hand in hand. Clever, and slightly scary stuff.

Use contactless or cash? Contactless/Cards.

Visitors to RBTE 2016 can meet with WhiteHat Security at Stand 1130.
