Dunelm details online development journey

Homeware retailer Dunelm worked with systems integrator Tryzens to complete its eCommerce re-platforming, it was announced this week.

The vendor provided consultancy and support as the UK retailer moved over to IBM WebSphere Commerce v7.6, which integrates in-house back-end systems and third-party tech partners. The new platform, unveiled in the summer, also includes a bespoke order management solution, which was developed by Tryzens and is tailored to the specific needs of Dunelm's shoppers.

Also integrated into the homeware retailer's new online platform are SAP and PIM systems.

Explaining the need for eCommerce investment, Chris Shaw, CIO of Dunelm, said: "Between 2012-13, our online store doubled in traffic and transactions.

"To meet the increased demands placed on our eCommerce platform, we undertook a review of our architecture and ways of working, realising that we needed to overhaul our old system."

The changes have been made with flexibility in mind and Dunelm believes the re-platforming will enable it to improve its capability in areas ranging from providing additional delivery options through to the control of its front-end designs.

Dunelm said in September that overall growth in home delivery sales during the last financial year was 55%. For the 12-month period, online accounted for 6.1% of total business, which was up from 4.4% in the previous year.
