Argos protects tech for its mobilised workforce

Argos has invested in screen protectors in an effort to avoid damaging the mobile devices it uses for internal operations.

With retailers increasingly reliant on mobile technology for use throughout their supply chains and for customer-related interactions in stores, the need to protect this investment is apparently becoming greater. Argos has joined high street retailer WHSmith in working with Tuffscreen to put that security in place.

Mobile devices with electronic proof of delivery (ePoD) systems and satellite navigation are now protected by the Bristol-based company's industrial covering, which Argos says is an important measure in ensuring the business's customer service standards are met and deliveries are made as scheduled.

Commenting on the screen protectors, Argos project manager Sharon Cartwright said: "Their rugged look and feel does not inhibit the screen operation in any way, either visually or in terms of touch response for data input, whether this is via finger or stylus."

The protection is made with a gel layer, which is chemically bonded to a scratch and abrasion-resistant hard sheet. They are custom-cut for each device. WHSmith is using the material to protect its in-store tablet devices, which are used by staff to serve customers away from fixed sales desks.
