Digital screen placed at heart of Bolton shopping centre

Bolton Market Place has installed a 25 sq m indoor screen, allowing visitors to tune into live sporting events, which this week includes tennis from Wimbledon.

The technology, which is supplied by Preston-based company ADI, will be used by the centre to help establish the venue as a hub for live broadcasts and other social activities.

The installation of the screen in the listed building, which dates back to 1855, is part of a wider investment from the centre's owner Moorgarth Group, which plans to create an enhanced shopping and leisure destination for Bolton incorporating 30,000 sq ft of restaurant space and a nine-screen cinema.

Drew Burrow, ADI's business development manager, said the Bolton Market Place installation has been "quite different in its application" to other shopping centre screen installations the company has worked on in the past.

Unlike other digital screens in shopping centres, the platform is not used exclusively for third-party advertising. It's ultimate function is to help the venue interact and engage with shoppers in multiple ways.

"We hope that Bolton Market Place can create a successful model that inspires other centres to incorporates large-format LED for multiple uses," Burrow explained.

Nikki Wilson-Cook, Bolton Market Place's centre manager, added: "We have a stunning quality display that integrates within our unique mall environment, delivering a positive impact on the shopping experience with fresh, relevant content and helping us to create a more social destination."
