RBTE 2015: Innovation rewarded as Real Fiction takes top prize

Holographic display solutions provider Real Fiction has won European retail technology show RBTE's inaugural Eye on Innovation title.

The Danish company's Dreamhoc Holographic Displays solution, which was showcased to the retail industry in March during the two-day event at London Olympia, was deemed the most innovative product on display by an expert industry panel and visitors attending the show.

Retailers using the innovative technology can enhance their visual merchandising, develop creative in-store marketing concepts and provide customers with 360-degree product displays, among other functions.

As part of the RBTE innovation trail, which comprised 12 solutions from a range of forward-thinking vendors, the displays edged ahead of Engyta and Findbox when the judges came to select a winning entry. Engyta's Connected NFC Screen and the Findbox 3D object recognition system were awarded the joint runners-up prize.

Matt Bradley, RBTE event director, said: "This year's RBTE proved once again that there is a huge array of technological innovation available for retailers looking to drive their businesses forward and to serve their customers in better ways.

"I was delighted to present Real Fiction with the inaugural RBTE Eye on Innovation accolade. Winning this prize ahead of such major competition across Europe is no mean feat, and the company's holographic technology really caught the judges' attention.

"At RBTE we always put a strong focus on innovation, and we will continue to do so next year. As the digital revolution continues to present huge opportunity for the retail industry, we want to shine a light on all new systems and solutions that can help transform retailers' businesses."

The RBTE 2015 Eye on Innovation was sponsored by 4R Systems. The judging panel was, as follows: Heath Cormack, IT strategy manager at Kingfisher; Kash Ghedia, technologies manager at Dixons Carphone; Chris Hughes, consultant at Retail Automation Consultancy; Brian Kilcourse, managing partner at RSR Research; Richard Mader, president and International Consulting and ARTS Director Emeritus; Mark McMurtrie, director at Payments Consultancy; Jevern Partridge, director at Ridge Solutions.
