Sainsbury's launches grocery click & collect service

UK supermarket Sainsbury's is set to roll out grocery click & collect services for its customers across the country, following the unveiling of its first in-store pick-up point in Farnham, Surrey on Tuesday.

Almost 20 more click & collect sites will be introduced in Sainsbury's stores around the UK in the next two weeks, as the grocer looks to step up its digital strategy and merge the boundaries between its separate shopping channels. A total of 100 stores are in the pipeline to deliver the service by the end of 2015.

Customers shopping online in catchment areas where a collection service is available will be given a new option when they logon, in addition to still being able to book the existing home delivery slots. Shoppers then choose where they want to collect their items, before picking them up from a refrigerated van parked in a designated area in the store's car park.

The pick-up points will be manned and supported by a member of Sainsbury's staff, with free collection slots available at eligible stores from Monday to Saturday from 8am to 1pm and then 2pm until 8pm. Sainsbury's will also make click & collect available during store opening times on Sundays.

All collections are subject to a minimum £20 shopping spend. Customers can place orders up to 20 days in advance, while the latest an order can be placed for next-day collection is 11pm.

Sainsbury's online director Robbie Feather commented: "This is yet another step for Sainsbury's increasingly popular online service, and a demonstration of our commitment to giving our customers more convenient ways to shop with us, wherever and whenever they want."

Online customers at Sainsbury's also now have an opportunity to purchase tableware, decorations and other items for the home, with an extended range of general merchandise and homewares made available for home delivery at the end of 2014.
