Spar UK wholesaler gets connected with Vodat

Spar UK wholesaler and independent grocery sector distributor A.F. Blakemore has implemented a 3G failover system from telecoms and network solutions provider Vodat International.

The technology investment has been made as the business looks to improve infrastructure resilience and reduce down time for its store estate across the UK.

In 2011, A.F. Blakemore completed the acquisition of fellow Spar wholesaler Capper and Co – a move that has led to the migration of a further 100+ stores to Vodat's Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) network. Almost 600 stores are connected to the Vodat network, but there are a further 100 still to migrate.

The partnership will also see A.F. Blakemore roll out a voice-over IP system that runs on Vodat's private network, enabling stores to make zero cost calls across the A.F. Blakemore Group.

James Lloyd, service and support manager at the wholesaler, commented: "We have worked with Vodat on a series of technology solutions that give the business a competitive edge.

"3G technology means we are not reliant on third-party telecoms providers in provisioning and reliability and puts us firmly in control of our network, allowing new stores to trade sooner and provide a better service to our customers thanks to less down time."

Vodat International will be exhibiting at RBTE 2015, which takes place at London's Olympia between 10-11 March. Visitors can meet with Vodat on stand 630.
