White Company store makes use of three-tone LED lighting

Clothing and home accessories retailer The White Company has put a concentrated focus on lighting within its Norwich store, as the business looks to enhance the experience of its customers.

Working with design agency Dalziel and Pow (D&P), the company founded by Chrissie Rucker has introduced LED lighting with three settings that change to match the time of day.

The White Company has made use of Reggiani Lighting's range of LED luminaires, as part of the project.

D&P's David Dalziel commented: "The lighting design concept was that the right level of lighting should be provided at the right time of day and for the right occasion.

"This is being achieved by using three settings, ranging from daylight to a mellow mood. This enables the company to alter the ambience from bright and fresh in the morning, then softer through the afternoon to relaxing and enticing into the evening."

During the design process, the retailer also used a combination of UNIMOSA LED downlights and a large tuneable white backlit ceiling over the stairwell linked to a Helvar DALI dimming system.

"In parallel, the variety of lighting treatments throughout the space adds to the experience, creating impact with spotlights to the perimeter and centre floor merchandising and a soft wash of light infilling shadows on the wall systems," Dalziel added.

"The design also encompasses focused decorative feature lighting suspended over key products with a bright daylight flood of light over the impressive staircase to encourage circulation."

Marks & Spencer (M&S) said last month that it will be rolling out LED lighting to each of its M&S Food Halls over the next two years. The retailer said that 100 M&S Simply Food stores will receive LED lighting installations and a further 300 Food Halls and Simply Food stores will see LED lighting used in their refrigeration units.

M&S views LED lighting as more energy efficient and longer lasting, in keeping with its energy reduction and corporate social responsibility programme Plan A.
