Star Micronics signs up for RBTE for fifth year in succession

Point-of-sale hardware solutions provider Star Micronics will be exhibiting at RBTE in 2015, continuing its run as an ever-present at the European retail solutions show.

Essential Retail caught up with Annette Tarlton, marketing director for Star Micronics EMEA, to find out why the business has rebooked its stand for next year's RBTE and to hear why mobile point of sale (MPoS) solutions continue to grow in importance for retail.

What were your RBTE highlights from the 2014 show?

RBTE 2014 provided Star with an excellent platform to demonstrate its position at the forefront of the MPoS revolution with one of the most extensive ranges of PoS printers and accessories designed for a variety of applications, environments and budgets.

Star is always one step ahead in terms of developing products that respond to the changing retail environment and especially today's rapidly evolving MPoS marketplace. Retailers benefit from the very latest technology given Star's pioneering approach.

What were the hot topics at RBTE 2014?

In today's multichannel retail world, retailers have to focus on connectivity as the need to develop and invest in cost effective, integrated multichannel strategies in order to effectively engage with customers and offer a seamless experience whatever the channel of delivery takes on greater importance.

Customers want choice, convenience and flexibility and innovative PoS technology in a retail environment can successfully meet these demands from bring-your-own-device to the more imaginative fully interactive compact kiosk.

At RBTE 2014 Star demonstrated a range of solutions that meet the requirements of multichannel retailing, whether it's the flexibility of mobile printing or an interactive communication platform to enhance customer engagement. With a demonstration of the AsuraCPRNT used within a shoe retailer, visitors were able to experience how customers can take advantage of being able to instantly check stock availability, print out coupons and request assistance.

With connectivity key in today's tablet world, Star has demonstrated its continued investment in advanced driver and multi-platform support to allow simple integration of platform-specific applications with Star products. Using Star's WebPRNT technology, visitors were able to experience this first hand by printing directly from their smartphone, tablet or iPad via the cloud.

Why have you booked for RBTE 2015?

RBTE 2014 was a very successful show for Star. We were able to demonstrate our solutions with a number of the latest MPoS software partners to a wide range of high quality end users and system integrators. With an ever increasing number of relevant visitors each year the show is clearly going from strength to strength.

What are the main areas of focus for your business in the year ahead?

Star will be focusing on further developing its extensive range of innovative solutions for today's cloud and tablet-based PoS systems.

MPoS systems provide a significant number of benefits over fixed PoS systems including greater flexibility, reduced costs and enhanced customer service. As a result, the MPoS marketplace is currently experiencing exponential growth worldwide and Star is at the forefront of this MPoS revolution with the widest selection of printers and accessories available today.

What are your retail technology predictions for 2014/15?

As the MPoS marketplace continues to grow exponentially, retail technology will have to embrace this changing environment. Customers are becoming more tech-savvy and demanding ever greater levels of service. As a result, retailers have to rise to the challenge and retail technology will play an increasingly key role in achieving this.

By investing today in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi-enabled PoS technology including printers that provide a low cost upgrade path, such as the TSP650II series from Star, alongside innovative software designed to facilitate efficient and reliable web printing, retailers will be well placed to adapt quickly and efficiently to this rapidly changing environment.
