Webinar: Retail bosses must set clear omnichannel goals for staff

Senior retail leaders must ensure their workforces are prepared for the changes and new skills required to achieve success in an omnichannel retail world – and it needs to be made clear that mistakes will be made along the way.

That was one message from a recent webinar 'Planning in the Omnichannel World with a Single View of Inventory', featuring supply chain solutions provider TXT Maple Lake and Columbus Consulting.

Moderated by Essential Retail editor Ben Sillitoe, the webinar addressed the key issues retailers need to consider when managing inventory and serving customers across multiple channels.

Charlotte Kula-Przezwanski, partner at Columbus Consulting and webinar panellist, said it is important for retail chiefs to establish clearly aligned goals for their staff to ensure they support the wider organisation's strategy.

"When I worked in retail [at Next], there were inspirational leaders and company sessions where people at the top, like [CEO] Simon Wolfson, took people on the journey to say 'this is how we're going to grow the business' and make sure that people understand what is expected of them," she explained.

"It's about making sure people know they can make mistakes along the way, and there's going to be the support and help [in place]."
