New technology from all sectors of the retail industry will be on show at RBTE 2014 between 11-12 March.

Essential Retail has rounded up the latest news from a small selection of the event's 300+ exhibitors to give the retail industry an indication of what to expect from the exhibition floor at London's Earls Court, this week.

iBeacon technology in use at RBTE

RBTE exhibitor MyOxygen has designed and developed a mobile app that can help visitors and exhibitors alike during the two-day event.

By downloading the app, users can plan their day, view details about seminars and conferences, see exhibitor profiles, check out the floor plan.

Users are encouraged to switch and keep their Bluetooth on to ensure they benefit from iBeacon technology, which will push location-based messages their way at the show.

MPoS in Berlin shopping centre

Cloud commerce provider skyauth is set to launch in Europe later this month after signing its first major customer for its mobile point of sale (MPoS) solution, popuppay, which uses CreditCall's MPoS SDK and payment gateway service.

Working alongside We Are Pop Up, a company which connects brands and businesses to short-term retail commercial space across Europe, skyauth will provide eight pop-up retailers within the Corio shopping centre in Berlin with popuppay.

Following the initial launch, the solution will be rolled out to further Corio international shopping centres later in 2014. The solution will be showcased on CreditCall's stand at RBTE this week.

Specsavers opts for handheld stock-checking systems

UK glasses retailer Specsavers has moved its stock-checking system to handheld computers from European manufacturer, Hoeft & Wessel.

Germany-based Hoeft & Wessel worked with partner 4Court Solutions to make Specsavers' software run on Allegro scanners. The range of mobile terminals will be demonstrated at RBTE this week..

Omnichannel coupon redemption solution launched

Valassis has launched omnichannel redemption solution, VERSO, which the company says streamlines the coupon acceptance process and reduces back office administration for retailers.

Retailers wishing to find out more about VERSO can hear from the Valassis team at RBTE this week.

Plastic bag dispensing innovation

Bleep UK will officially launch its Bleep eebag, a plastic bag dispenser developed to integrate into retail checkout counters, at this year's RBTE.

Designed with the upcoming plastic bag levy in mind, the product aims to reduce packaging costs and environmental impact for stores, while improving the customer experience at the checkout.

With eebag, bags can be released according to purchase volume, bag flow rate can be pre-programmed and the EPoS system can be debited according to a pay-per-bag consumption policy.

Visitors to RBTE this week will be able to see the solution in action.

Westmorland reports success with new point of sale system

Motorway services, hospitality and leisure group Westmorland says it has seen cost and efficiency benefits from implementing BCP's Accord Momentum EPoS at its Tebay Services retail business.

The system has been deployed initially at the company’s Tebay northbound motorway services operation which reportedly has high footfall levels with spikes at various times of day. 

Westmorland said that the solution has improved visibility of real-time data, which it argues has facilitated greater centralised reporting and control and more accurate stock replenishment.

The motorway services group now plans to roll out Accord Momentum to the rest of its retail outlets in the north of England.

Bringing eCommerce in-store

Pyramid Computing will be unveiling its 24-inch interactive brick concept and cloud eCommerce software at RBTE this week.

The company's latest innovations include Nephele for polytouch, which it describes as "the world's first out-of-the-box software solution bringing eCommerce in-store faster and easier than ever before".

Visitors to RBTE can check out Pyramid's solutions on the vendor's stand.

Cath Kidston using Futura EPoS in Shanghai

Fashion and homeware retailer Cath Kidston is using Futura's fourth-generation EPoS solution in China.

The Futura4POS solution has been specifically designed for large lifestyle and fashion retailers, as well as brands looking to expand and trade internationally, and is being used in Cath Kidston's flagship store in Shanghai.

Visitors to RBTE this week have a chance to see the solution in action at Futura's stand.

RBTE 2014 runs from 11-12 March at London's Earls Court.
