JDA unveils in-store eCommerce picking solution

JDA Software will release its In-Store Picking solution on 26 December this year, enabling retailers to "accurately and efficiently" pick eCommerce orders from their stores.

The solution provider made the announcement at its annual conference, JDA FocusConnect 2013, which took place at Heathrow Hotel in the UK last week.

Marketed at grocery, hardline and fashion retailers, the tool enters the market as IMRG-Capgemini research predicts that UK online retail sales in December alone will surpass £10 billion for the first time.

Razat Gaurav, senior vice president, international, at JDA Software, said: "We believe JDA's unique, differentiated solution for in-store picking will drive real value for companies across Europe and the world.

"Our customers are struggling under the sheer volume of eCommerce orders and are looking at innovative ways of satisfying the increasing demand. JDA's in-store picking capabilities offer retailers a way to efficiently and effectively pick eCommerce orders and add another important option in the way they fulfil customer orders as part of their all-channel experience."

Retailers using the JDA system may choose either voice activation or browser-based devices to pick products for packaging on carts and for those carts to be marshalled into staging areas before being loaded for home delivery, click & collect store areas, or for drive-through models, as used in mainland Europe.

Pickers are sent to the shop floor at a time that minimises the disruption for customers in the store, while the solution also provides different substitution strategies depending on the retailer's brand promise, and generates customer-ready paperwork before sending the picked items electronically to the point of sale system.

The retail industry is going through a period of rapid change and the JDA FocusConnect event last week included a number of presentations from leading retail figures, who detailed some of the latest developments in the sector.

In his keynote speech, dubbed Tomorrow' Retail Today, Ocado chairman and former Marks & Spencer boss Sir Stuart Rose described how change is synonymous with success in retail. Using his 40+ years of retail experience, Rose spoke about the impact of change and innovation in retail.

Over the course of the three days, there were sessions run by the likes of M&S, Capgemini and Accenture, with other presentations covering topics from manufacturing to perfecting omnichannel retail.
