RBTE and Eccomplished to host Retail Innovation Theatre

The UK and Europe’s leading retail solutions event RBTE has teamed up with retail technology specialists Eccomplished to put together a new innovation showcase at the exhibition next March.

Companies are invited to put forward proposals demonstrating how their solutions help retailers solve their key challenges, with the winning entries getting a unique opportunity to present to leading retailers at the two-day Retail Innovation Theatre when the show takes place between 11-12 March at London’s Earls Court.

Matt James, chief operating officer at Eccomplished, said: “Innovation is critical to every major change in the retail industry today.

“Whether re-inventing the high street, or engaging customers online through augmented reality, digital technology will be central to each decision. We are excited to be working with RBTE 2014 to showcase some of the most forward thinking individuals and companies, who are transforming retail around the world through digital innovation.”

Eccomplished recently brought together more than 75 leading investors from a cross section of the UK tech investor community to its inaugural Retail 20:20 Investor Forum, where six retail technology innovators pitched for business support.

With such a strong focus being placed on multichannel development in retail, it appears the time is ripe for forward-thinking, flexible companies to put their ideas in front of retailers looking for the latest solutions to distinguish them from the competition.

Nick Field, event director at RBTE, said: “We know from our extensive industry outreach that innovation is at the heart of successful retail. By partnering with Eccomplished and working with our panel of experts we will be providing our visitors with the chance to be inspired by technology, selected according to strict qualification criteria to ensure visitors will be treated to the most exciting and dynamic programme.

“The featured innovations will not be sold but independently selected on their merits alone. I’m certain that the call for papers will unearth some gems!”

Heath Cormack, technology innovation strategist and a member of the RBTE Steering Committee, told Essential Retail that he hopes to see a range of solution ideas being pitched for the Retail Innovation Theatre.

“There have got to be some blue-sky ideas, but at the same time we need some solutions solving real-world challenges,” he explained.

Cormack suggests that retailers are on an adoption curve, with some companies wanting to break new ground and some following behind. He said that he wants the Retail Innovation Theatre to offer something for everyone.

“We shouldn’t dictate what comes back – it’s open to interpretation.

“The customer must be the main driver; will it wow them, will it entice them? It’s all about experience.”

The Retail Innovation Theatre call for papers deadline is 30 November 2013. More details on how to submit a proposal can be found here.
