Wallpaper and fabric specialist Osborne & Little has a lovely VM prop in its store window: a giant iron covered in furry animal-print. Irons seldom appear in the same sentence as the adjective ‘lovely’ the spiritual side of ironing can be a very meditative process, providing the inspiration here.
Of course a giant anything is a well-established VM trope, but while we have all seen giant flowers and rabbits, a giant iron may be a first.
Whatever the inspiration, the iron is a lovely oxymoron. The warm toned, animal-print sections contrast very nicely with the saturated blue of the store-front, with the caption ‘New Collections’ in the window.
The iron is best appreciated from a three quarters view and fairly close-up, in order to appreciate the print.
Entertainingly the power cord of the iron closely resembles a tiger’s tail, loosely coiled but almost breaking through the window.
Giant toasters, blenders, and coffee percolators - bring it on.
