Matalan has rolled out DPD's Pickup service to all its 222 stores across the UK, giving shoppers additional locations to collect their online deliveries.

The clothing and homewares retailer said its late-night openings and free parking mean its stores will provide convenient collection sites for its family customer base.

Shane Quigley, Matalan's chief customer officer, commented: "Making life easier for families is at the heart of everything we do and we continue to work tirelessly to introduce new initiatives that do just this.

"We're excited to roll out our partnership with DPD in time for the busy Christmas period for customers."

DPD Pickup launched in June 2015 and it is one of the 'in-flight' options available in the courier firm's Predict text and email notifications, which are sent ahead of a scheduled home delivery. If a customer is not going to be at home they can divert their delivery to a DPD Pickup point for collection at a time that suits them.

Dwain McDonald, CEO of DPD, said: "Our aim is to create a completely different type of parcel shop experience with big branded stores, in convenient locations, with free parking.  It isn't just about genuinely differentiating ourselves from other carriers."

In May this year, DPD also launched the Your DPD app which enables customers to set their own delivery preferences including the ability to request that drivers always avoid certain times of the day, such as the school run.

Later in the year DPD Precise was unveiled, allowing shoppers to select their own, exact one-hour delivery slot on the day of their choosing.
