The UK's largest grocer Tesco is trialling a service that will allow its customers to pick up online orders at locations across their community, including schools, libraries and sports centres.

It is the first time that Tesco has extended its click & collect service beyond its store network and highlights the retailer's drive to improve its convenience offering in the UK.

York is the test-bed for the service, with three locations in the city being used ahead of an expected wider roll-out in the build-up to Christmas.

Simon Belsham, managing director of Tesco.com, said: "Customers up and down the country already love using click & collect because they can do their shopping trip in a matter of minutes, even with the whole family in tow.

"We think customers are really going to like the extension to the service because it makes things even more convenient for them and it means they can fit their shopping in around their lifestyles."

London and Dingwall in Scotland are among the locations that will be able to access the new click & collect service before Christmas.
