Groupe Auchan has opted to implement Oracle Retail Merchandising solutions as it looks to grow its European business.

The French grocery retailer will use the technology solutions provider's merchandising, price management, trade management and allocation tools to improve the link-up between its core retail and supply chain operations. The aim is to provide a scalable system that will help optimise merchandising decisions across the business.

Based in 13 countries and regions, Groupe Auchan operates thousands of fully-consolidated and franchised hypermarkets and supermarkets. In 2012, the group generated consolidated revenue excluding taxes of €46.9 billion, with more than half of sales coming from outside France.

Mike Webster, senior vice president and general manager at Oracle Retail, commented: "In selecting Oracle Retail, Groupe Auchan is committing to leverage Oracle's expertise which enables businesses to master the operational control that drives efficiencies, promotes growth and enhances the customer brand experience across national and international boundaries."

The retailer's growth is not constrained to Europe, though, with China currently viewed by senior management as an area of priority in terms of expansion.

With a presence in China through the Auchan and RT Mart brands, Groupe Auchan opened 43 stores in the country in 2012, and it unveiled its 300th hypermarket in the country at the end of June this year.
