Achim Schneider has been appointed global head of SAP's retail industry business unit, taking responsibility for the entire retail industry footprint and reporting directly to Lori Mitchell-Keller, global general manager of consumer industries.

A statement from the US-based technology company said the new recruit will lead a team in providing retailers with the "right mix of cloud and on-premise technology solutions" that can help them during a transformative time in their industry.

Schneider has worked within the retail segment at SAP for 17 years, and most recently led the global supply chain team and fashion team. Under his stewardship, the department brought the SAP Fashion Management application, which is used by over 25 global fashion brands across the world.

Mitchell-Keller, who assumed her lead consumer industries role last year following Pat Bakey's promotion to president of SAP's industry cloud organisation, commented: "Retail is an industry that is under tremendous pressure to fulfil consumer expectations.

"The digital core in retailing is fundamental to meeting these expectations. SAP places the customer at the centre of everything we do, and I am excited about Achim Schneider's leadership of this crucial industry."
