Delivery and returns service CollectPlus is set to build on its most successful festive trading period to date by growing its organisation further in 2016, according to commercial director Paul Scratchley.

The business, which works with retailers to allow their customers to pick up online goods in third-party locations, said the number of click & collect transactions in the last quarter of 2015 jumped by 27% year on year – prompting the organisation to talk of "momentum" going into the new year.

More than 428,000 new customers reportedly began using CollectPlus click & collect in the final three months of 2015, with December's total alone increasing by 15% year-on-year. Scratchley says the service is beneficial to retailers and customers alike.

"We know from our own research that CollectPlus brings new customers into convenience stores, and that two-thirds of our customers (64%) have used the service more than three times," he explained.

"Many of our partner retailers rely on the reach and convenience of our network to deliver products to customers who might otherwise have been unable to access them. We also know that shoppers value choice when it comes to the delivery of their online shopping and we're pleased to be able to provide them with a greater range of products they can access through click & collect."

Data released by CollectPlus would suggest that UK customers are identifying click & collect as a convenient way to buy goods in the busy Christmas period. The deals on offer in the Boxing Day sales apparently proved popular, with 10,000+ shoppers using click & collect for the first time on Tuesday 29 December alone.

Meanwhile, having recently agreed partnerships with high street fashion retailer New Look and menswear brand The Idle Man, CollectPlus has added 33 new brands following the peak trading period, taking it total retail partners close to 100.

AO.com, Nespresso, Go Outdoors and Liverpool Football Club are among the new partners to offer click & collect, while Aldi Wines, which went live last month, will be offering the facility in due course.

Scratchley commented: "We have just experienced our most successful peak to date, introducing more new customers than ever before to our click & collect service, and we are well set to build on this momentum in 2016."
