John Browett, the CEO designate at homewares retailer Dunelm, has assumed a non-executive director role at Octopus Investments.

The UK fund management company, which is going through a period of rapid expansion, is hoping to benefit from Browett's retail sector experience and the customer service focus that comes from a career in retailing.

It was announced last month that the former, Dixons Retail and Monsoon Accessorize CEO has joined Dunelm as CEO designate, before taking over in a full-time capacity at the start of 2016. Browett also had a short stint as Apple's as head of retail, following his work kick-starting the Dixons turnaround strategy.

Browett, who is also a non-exec at airline EasyJet, said: "Octopus really is a different kind of fund management company.

"Not only is the leadership team impressive but the company has a fantastic culture, supported by great people and a really strong focus on doing the right things for its customers. The team continues to work tirelessly to make their vision a reality."

The background of Octopus's senior management team is typically banking and consultancy, with CEO and founder Simon Rogerson previously at Mercury Asset Management. COO Alex Miller was director of strategy & operational performance at Lloyds Banking Group prior to joining Octopus.
