Automotive and cycling products retailer Halfords has appointed supply chain solutions provider Wincanton as sole operator of its national transport contract.

Set to go live this summer, the partnership will see Wincanton operate more than 80 vehicles and oversee distribution of the retailer's products from its flagship hub in Coventry and sites around the UK in Redditch, Bury, Mossend, Portbury and Greenford.

The two companies have been working together in recent months to establish improved ways of working, with the logistics firm offering guidance on how Halfords can manage its infrastructure to improve operational efficiency.

Wincanton's role will also involve looking at ways to reduce costs throughout the Halfords supply chain.

Liam McElroy, retail managing director at Wincanton, commented: "From the beginning of our consultative relationship with Halfords, we have worked hard to develop a deep understanding of the business and build strong relationships.

"We're excited to now be working so closely with such a well-known and well-loved British brand, ensuring its customers receive the highest levels of service and quality."

Halfords also announced today (Thursday) that Jonny Mason, a former Sainsbury's supermarket financial director and current CFO of Swedish food company Scandi Standard, will become its new financial director in October 2015. He will replace Andrew Findlay, who announced he is leaving for EasyJet, earlier this year.
