As retail has evolved and undertaken its technological journey in recent years, the words multichannel and omnichannel have become central to the strategies of most businesses operating in the industry.

But despite the growth of online sales, the evolution of mobile commerce and emergence of social media in recent years, the store still lies at the heart of modern retail. Although acknowledging the importance of new technology and developing the relevant IT-led processes, the majority of retailers are still generating the lion's share of their revenue through this traditional channel.

In line with current trends, Essential Retail's sister publication Retail Design World was launched in 2014 to provide all the latest news, features, interviews and opinions on retail design and visual merchandising.

Running in association with Retail Design Expo, which takes place alongside RBTE at London's Olympia every March, the magazine – edited by Matthew Valentine – aims to keep you up to date with all things impacting the retail design world.
