Payment solutions company Paysafecard is new to RBTE, and it will be showcasing its range of products at the two-day event at London Olympia between 9-10 March 2016.

Essential Retail caught up with Udo Müller, CEO at paysafecard, to find out more about the company and its plans for the spring show.

Why have you booked for RBTE 2016? 

RBTE is a great event to get in touch with retailers and online shops from a wide range of industries. Our prepaid solution for the internet, paysafecard, can be used at thousands of online shops, and is available at 500,000 sales outlets in 42 countries. However, there are still some industries in which paysafecard is not yet well known.

At RBTE, we are looking for new partners who are interested in a payment method for the internet that is easy to use and secure. paysafecard is the perfect solution for customers who value their data security, wish to limit their spending, or simply don’t have a credit card. By offering paysafecard, our partners can reach out to completely new target groups.

What new technology will you be displaying at RBTE 2016, and why is it relevant?  

Our products and services have a lot to offer which benefits partnering merchants and online shops. Our main product paysafecard allows customers to pay quickly, simply and safely online as if they were paying in cash. Paysafecard is a prepaid online payment solution which anyone can use. No bank account or credit card is required. 

Paysafecard works in a similar way to mobile prepaid cards. Each voucher comes with a unique 16 digit PIN, and is available in denominations of 10, 25, 50, 75, and 100 GBP (or similar denominations in other currencies). To make a payment, the user simply selects paysafecard as the payment option on the operator’s website, before entering the unique 16 digit PIN. Alternatively, customers with a "my paysafecard" account can also pay using the balance from this account by simply entering their username and password at the payment screen. Any remaining credit remains valid for future payments, and multiple PINs can be combined for larger amounts.

Part of the success of paysafecard has been due to our continued investment in technology, and the ability to meet customer expectations when it comes to simple and secure paying. Our payment solution is now fully customised for mobile devices; partly for this reason, paysafecard has seen a remarkable growth in the usage of its product via mobile devices over the past few years. The paysafecard app for Android and iOS was one of the first apps that used augmented reality - “360° paysafecard”. Finding the nearest outlet to purchase a paysafecard voucher is therefore easier than ever before. The app also allows users to rate sales outlets, supports several languages, and features a news and promotions section. In addition, the “scan2pay” service was added to the app. This innovation allows “my paysafecard” account holders to pay by simply scanning a QR code at the operator’s website.

All of these functions and features make paysafecard one of the preferred payment options when it comes to the internet and mobile devices. paysafecard helps partnering companies to increase their revenue through new customer segments. Customer transactions occur in real time, and there is no risk of chargebacks for our partners. paysafecard is also quick to implement - either directly or through a payment service provider. One API (application programming interface) activates all countries and currencies.

Name some of the retailers that you are currently working alongside?

We are working alongside many successful retailers, including Dino direct, MMOGA, Spotify, and Skype - to name but a few. It all started with only a few partners when paysafecard was launched in 2000. Since then, the idea behind the product was - and remains - to enable everyone to make fast and secure payments on the internet. Today, paysafecard is the world’s leading cash-based payment solution for online payments. It can be used for a wide range of online services and products such as paying for online games, music or films.

What's the best customer service you've experienced this year?

Many companies offer good customer service nowadays. Most market leaders are companies that have realised it takes more to win a customer than simply offering a good product.
