UK LED specialist Lietcorp has been presented with the retail project of the year award for its work at the Dubai Festival City Mall.

The prize was picked up at the design and technology trade show, Light Middle East, and comes after Lietcorp installed new lighting at the mall which has saved almost £60,000 per year and is reportedly going to boost the bottom line by over £145,000 over five years.

Nick Clark, director at Lietcorp, told Essential Retail that lighting can play an important part in retail design.

"Lighting is one of only a handful of technologies, which, if done well, offers huge benefits to a wide audience including retailers and customers while also having a positive impact to the environment.

"Implementing innovative lighting can influence and encourage consumer interaction within a store and LED lighting in particular, is quickly transforming how stores handle their retail lighting."

The Lietcorp director, who has overseen work with the likes of Bathstore, Next and Beaverbrooks in the UK, also suggests in-store lighting can have a significant impact on a customer's decision making process.

"We are delighted to win such a prestigious award and the team in the UK and UAE have worked incredibly hard throughout the project," he added.

"It is great that we have been recognised for delivering such a high performance, energy–saving solution to Dubai Festival City Mall and look forward to working with other retailers in the area."
